Dear Friend,

With all that is going on in our world, it is important to allow Jesus to be the foundation of our lives. We must strive to be an instrument of God’s peace to all we encounter. This is the only way the world changes. We are called to be the face of Jesus!

A Spiritual Reflection
for Your Weekend
by Henri Nouwen

True Peacemaking

If giving and receiving the fruits of God’s intimate love for all people were our main concern, peace would be near. Little of this peace is visible in our world, but wherever and whenever people leave the house of fear and start to share their gifts in the house of love, true mission occurs, and true peacemaking begins.

Arrive to Sunday Service Prepared to Hear God’s Word Proclaimed

The reading for this Sunday, March 8, the Third Sunday of Lent is Luke 15:11-32 (King James Version).

On this Third Sunday of Lent, the Church invites us to enter deeply into the parable of the Prodigal Son. This story is not simply about one reckless younger son or one resentful older brother—it is about the heart of the Father.

In this parable, we see three movements: rebellion, repentance, and restoration. The younger son represents the part of us that wants freedom without responsibility, blessings without relationship, and independence without God. He leaves home chasing happiness, only to discover emptiness. His turning point comes when he “comes to his senses.” Lent is meant to be that moment for us—a season to wake up spiritually and ask: Where have I wandered?

Yet the heart of the story is the father. He does not wait with crossed arms. He watches. He runs. He embraces. Before the son can finish his rehearsed apology, the father restores his dignity. This is how God loves us—not reluctantly, but extravagantly. Then there is the older son. He stayed home, but his heart was far from the father. His resentment reveals another way we drift through comparison, bitterness, and self-righteousness. Lent challenges us to examine not only obvious sins but also hidden attitudes.

Practical Ways to Live This Passage Daily

1. Practice a Daily “Coming to Your Senses.”
Take five minutes each evening to reflect:
  • Where did I move closer to God today?
  • Where did I drift?
  • What needs to be brought home to the Father?
2. Let Go of Resentment
If you identify with the older son, ask:
  • Whose blessings am I jealous of?
  • Where do I feel unappreciated?
Bring that honestly to God. Gratitude disarms resentment.
3. Imitate the Father
Is there someone in your life who has wandered? Instead of judgment, offer welcome. A phone call. A listening ear. A small gesture of mercy.

4. Remember Your Identity
The father says, “You are always with me, and everything I have is yours.” Lent is not about earning love; it is about returning to the love that has always been there. As we continue our Lenten journey, may we have the humility of the younger son to return, the honesty to confront our inner elder brother, and the courage to become like the father—merciful, compassionate, and joyful when the lost are found.

This week, ask yourself: Where is God inviting me to come home—and who is He asking me to welcome home?

Please come prepared to hear the Word of God proclaimed during Service.

We are looking forward to seeing you this Sunday for Service at 10:00 a.m.
Love,
Fr. Dale & Pastor Mark
