Come Close to God’s Heart
|
As we come to know, more and more, we belong to God and are part of the life of God, we also come to know the heart of God. Some of our frantic questions – What must I do? How can I get what I need? – fade away when we come closer to God's heart. Then we begin to hear the questions and see the struggles that we encounter from that sacred place. In God, we gain new ears to hear, new eyes to see, and new hearts to discern what is really happening. Concerns that, in the past, completely occupied our minds lose their meaning. Distinctions that seemed so very important to us dissolve when we look at them from our vantage point in God. What seemed a reason to fear no longer holds us in its power; what made us travel far and wide no longer drives us. Instead, our being is filled with a deep desire to see God's will be done on earth as in heaven.

Arrive to Sunday Service Prepared to Hear God’s Word Proclaimed
The reading for this Sunday, July 19, the 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time is Matthew 13:24-30 Here is a reflection on the passage.
In Sunday’s gospel, Jesus tells the story of a farmer who sows good seed, only to have an enemy scatter weeds throughout the field. When the servants ask if they should pull out the weeds immediately, the farmer tells them to wait, lest they uproot the wheat along with them. At the proper time, the harvest will reveal what is wheat and what is weed.
This parable reminds us that our lives—and our world—are often a mixture of good and evil, faithfulness and failure, hope and disappointment. We naturally want God to remove everything that is wrong as quickly as possible. Yet God's patience is greater than ours. He sees what we cannot see and continues to work quietly in people's hearts, allowing time for repentance, growth, and transformation.
Jesus also invites us to look honestly at our own lives. Rather than spending our energy identifying the "weeds" in others, we are called to nurture the good seed God has planted within us. Through prayer, scripture, worship, acts of kindness, and forgiveness, God helps us bear the fruit of His kingdom.
As we gather for worship on Sunday, let us thank God for His patience with us. He has not given up on us but continues to cultivate our hearts with grace and mercy. May we leave PWC on Sunday committed to growing as faithful disciples, trusting that God, the Lord of the harvest, will bring His perfect justice and abundant love to fulfillment in His perfect time.
