A Spiritual Reflection
for Your Weekend

Make Your Home in Me

When Jesus says: “Make your home in me as I make mine in you,” he offers us an intimate place that we can truly call “home.” Home is that place or space where we do not have to be afraid but can let go of our defenses and be free, free from worries, free from tensions, free from pressures. Home is where we can laugh and cry, embrace and dance, sleep long and dream quietly, eat, read, play, watch the fire, listen to music, and be with a friend. Home is where we can rest and be healed. The word “home” gathers a wide range of feelings and emotions up into one image, the image of a house where it is good to be: the house of love.

Arrive to Sunday Service Prepared to Hear God’s Word Proclaimed

The reading for this Sunday, April 19, Third Sunday of Easter is: Luke 24:13-35. Here is a reflection on the passage:

The story of the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13–35) reveals something deeply human about the Christian journey: we often walk with Christ without recognizing Him.

The two disciples are leaving Jerusalem discouraged and confused. They had hoped Jesus was the one to redeem Israel, yet the Cross shattered their expectations. Even as they speak with the risen Lord, “their eyes were prevented from recognizing him.” This is not just a detail—it is a spiritual reality. When hope fades, when suffering clouds our vision, Christ can seem absent even when He is very near.

Jesus responds not with immediate revelation, but with patient accompaniment. He walks with them, listens to their sorrow, and then interprets the Scriptures, showing how suffering and glory are united in God’s plan. This reminds us that Christ meets us in our confusion, not to dismiss it, but to transform it through truth.

Their eyes are finally opened “in the breaking of the bread.” This moment points clearly to the Eucharist, where Christ is made present in a way that surpasses mere understanding. It is here that recognition happens—not just intellectually, but relationally. They come to know Him not only by what He says, but by how He gives Himself.

The transformation is immediate. From walking away in despair, they turn back toward Jerusalem with urgency and joy. An encounter with the risen Christ always leads to mission. When we truly recognize Him, we cannot remain where we were.

This Gospel invites us to ask: Where might I be missing Christ in my life? Perhaps in disappointment, in unanswered questions, or in the ordinary rhythms of daily life. It also calls us to remain close to Scripture and the Eucharist, where our eyes are continually opened.

Even when we do not recognize Him, Christ is walking with us. And when we allow Him to speak, to stay, and to break bread with us, our hearts—like those of the disciples—begin to burn within us.

Please pray for peace and seek to be an instrument of God’s peace in this world.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. for Service.
Love,
Fr. Dale & Pastor Mark
