A Small and Hidden Life
|
Discernment reveals new priorities, directions, and gifts from God. We come to realize that what previously seemed so important for our lives, loses its power over us. Our desire to be successful, well liked, and influential becomes increasingly less important as we come closer to God's heart. To our surprise, we even may experience a strange inner freedom to follow a new call or direction as previous concerns move into the background of our consciousness. We begin to see the beauty of the small and hidden life that Jesus lived in Nazareth. Most rewarding of all is the discovery that as we pray more each day, God's will – that is, God's concrete ways of loving us and our world – gradually is made known to us.

Arrive to Sunday Service Prepared to Hear God’s Word Proclaimed
The reading for this Sunday, July 5, the 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time is Matthew 11:25-30. Here is a reflection on the passage.
In Matthew 11:25–30, Jesus offers one of the most comforting invitations in all of Scripture: "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest." Jesus speaks to people who are weary—not only from physical work, but from the burdens of fear, worry, guilt, disappointment, and the pressures of daily life.
Jesus praises the Father for revealing His truth to the "little ones." The Kingdom of God is not reserved for the powerful, the successful, or the intellectually gifted. It is revealed to those who approach God with humility, trust, and openness.
Like children, we are invited to depend on God rather than relying solely on our own strength. When Jesus tells us to take His yoke upon us, He is not promising a life free from challenges. Rather, He promises that we do not have to carry our burdens alone. A yoke joins two together, and Jesus offers to walk beside us. His way is not one of harsh demands but of love, mercy, and grace. He is "meek and humble of heart," and through a relationship with Him, we find peace for our souls.
