Freedom in Letting Go
I have noticed in my own life that people I don't like have power over me because I am always thinking about them. They preoccupy me and have control over my thinking. I find myself jealous, resentful, and vengeful. I lose peace. I am holding on to these people as my enemies.
Loving our enemies is the way of becoming free of our enemies. We free ourselves by letting go, by loving them, by caring for them.
One of the most beautiful things is that when we let the enemy go out of our heart by love and forgiveness, we are suddenly free to let that unlimited, all-embracing love of God pour into us. We become a new person every time we forgive an enemy, because we let go of the angry person inside who was holding on to fear.
The core of our faith is to be free people – free from the power we give to our enemies, free to love every human being with the divine love that always forgives, seven times seven and seven again.

Arrive to Sunday Service Prepared to Hear God’s Word Proclaimed
The reading for this Sunday, September 27, the 26th in Ordinary Time is Philippians 2:1-11. Here is a reflection on the passage:
When Christians gather for worship, we come from many different circumstances. Some arrive with joy and gratitude; others may be carrying disappointment, conflict, worry, or weariness. Yet Paul reminds us that our unity does not depend upon everyone having the same personality, opinions, or circumstances. Our unity comes from Christ.
Paul begins by asking the Philippians to live with encouragement, love, fellowship, compassion, and mercy. Then he gives them a challenging invitation: “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves.”
That can be difficult. We naturally want to be noticed, appreciated, understood, and recognized. We want our opinions heard and our needs considered. But Paul points us toward a different way of living—the way of Jesus.
Jesus did not cling to status or privilege. Instead, he emptied himself, took the form of a servant, and humbled himself in obedience to God. The cross reveals the depth of Christ's love: Jesus was willing to give himself for others.
This passage challenges us to ask an important question as we gather for worship:
“Am I becoming more like Jesus in the way I treat other people?”
Worship is not simply about what happens during the hour we spend in church. We gather to encounter Christ so that we can carry the mind and heart of Christ into the rest of our week.

The humility of Jesus might look very ordinary in our daily lives:
|
- Listening instead of always needing to be heard.
- Serving someone without expecting recognition.
- Letting go of the need to win every argument.
- Forgiving rather than keeping score.
- Noticing someone who feels left out.
- Putting another person's needs alongside our own.
- Choosing kindness when we have every opportunity to be critical.
Paul ultimately points us toward the great mystery of Christ: the One who humbled himself was exalted by God. The way of Jesus is not the way of self-promotion; it is the way of self-giving love.
As we gather around the Lord's Table and worship together, we are reminded that we belong to something larger than ourselves. We are members of Christ's body. We are called not merely to admire Jesus' humility but to imitate it.
