During the Easter Season, PWC will be supporting NPH’s (Nuestros Hermanos Pequenos) St. Damien Pediatric Hospital in Haiti with our loose change or other monetary donations. As you know, the situation is dire and bleak. NPH needs your support to continue the necessary work caring for children in Haiti. In a country of 11 million people, St. Damien is the only pediatric hospital in Haiti. Any amount you can contribute will help this necessary and urgent cause.

There will be a special basket for donations.

Come to Sunday Service Prepared to Hear God’s Word Proclaimed
The scripture reading for this Sunday, the Fifth Sunday of Easter is: John 15:1-8. Here is a synopsis of the reading.

This passage beautifully illustrates the intimate and interconnected relationship believers have with Jesus Christ. Here are some reflections for Christians seeking to incorporate John 15:1-8 into their lives:

Abiding in Christ: Just as branches draw their sustenance and life from the vine, we are called to abide in Christ. This means not just occasional connection, but a continual, intimate relationship with Him. It involves spending time in prayer, studying His word, and surrendering our will to His.

Fruitfulness: Jesus emphasizes that as we abide in Him, we will bear fruit. This fruit can manifest in various ways, such as displaying the fruits of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, etc.), leading others to Christ, and living a life that reflects His teachings. Reflect on the areas of your life where you can bear more fruit and ask the Holy Spirit to help you grow.

Pruning: Just as a gardener prunes branches to increase their fruitfulness, God sometimes allows trials and challenges in our lives to refine and shape us. Instead of resenting these seasons, see them as opportunities for growth and trust that God is working all things together for your good.

Dependence on Christ: Apart from Christ, we can do nothing. This humbling truth reminds us of our constant need for His strength, wisdom, and guidance. Instead of relying on our own efforts and abilities, let us surrender control to Him and trust in His power to work through us.

Glorifying God: The ultimate purpose of bearing fruit is to glorify God. As we abide in Christ and bear fruit, we point others to Him and bring glory to His name. Let your life be a reflection of His goodness and grace, drawing others into relationship with Him.

Obedience: Jesus emphasizes the importance of obedience in this passage. As we abide in Him, our desires align with His, and we naturally desire to obey His commands. Reflect on areas of your life where you may be resisting His will and surrender those areas to Him in obedience.

Incorporating John 15:1-8 into our lives requires a daily commitment to abiding in Christ, bearing fruit, trusting in His pruning process, depending on His strength, glorifying God, and walking in obedience. May we continually seek to deepen our relationship with Him and live lives that honor and glorify His name.

Please pray for peace in our world, especially in the Middle East and Ukraine. See you on Sunday at 10:00 am!

Love,
Fr. Dale and Pastor Mark
