Come to Sunday Service Prepared to Hear God’s Word Proclaimed
The scripture reading for this Sunday, the Second Sunday of Easter is: Here is a synopsis of the reading: John 20:19-31

In John 20:19-31, we encounter the powerful account of Jesus' resurrection appearances to his disciples. This passage invites us to reflect deeply on themes of faith, doubt, and the transformative power of encountering the risen Christ.

The scene opens with the disciples huddled together in fear behind locked doors, still reeling from the events of Jesus' crucifixion. Suddenly, Jesus appears among them, offering words of peace and reassurance. His presence alone dispels their fear and fills them with unimaginable joy.

Thomas, one of the disciples, is absent during this initial encounter. When he hears about it later, he struggles to believe. His skepticism leads him to demand physical proof – to see and touch the wounds of Jesus. Yet, Jesus responds to Thomas with grace, inviting him to touch his scars and believe.

Through Thomas’ doubt and subsequent confession of faith, we are reminded that doubt is not the enemy of faith but rather an opportunity for growth. Jesus meets Thomas in his doubt, offering him the evidence he seeks. In doing so, Jesus teaches us that doubt can lead to deeper understanding and a more profound faith.

Moreover, Jesus’ words to Thomas – “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” – extend an invitation to all future believers, including us today. We may not have physically seen Jesus or touched his wounds, but we are called to trust in the testimony of those who have gone before us and to open our hearts to the reality of his resurrection.

As Christians, we are invited to reflect on how we respond to doubt in our own lives. Do we allow doubt to paralyze us, or do we see it as an opportunity to deepen our faith? Are we open to encountering the risen Christ in unexpected ways, even when our minds struggle to comprehend?

Ultimately, the story of Thomas reminds us that faith is not about having all the answers or being free from doubt. Rather, it is about trusting in the promises of God, even in the midst of uncertainty. May we, like Thomas, encounter the risen Christ in our doubts and proclaim with conviction, “My Lord and my God!”

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday for service. Have a blessed weekend!

Love,
Fr. Dale and Pastor Mark
