A Note from Father Dale

Dear Friends,

I want to thank Peter and Carol Palmer for their service to our church as deacons. Deacon Carol coordinated our women’s ministry. Deacon Peter coordinated our men’s group. Before coming to PWC, Peter and Carol served as pastors. They are discerning where God might call them to serve as pastors at this time. We are so grateful for their time, service, friendship, and faith. May God bless them in their journey.

Love, Fr. Dale

Come to Sunday Service Prepared to Hear God’s Word Proclaimed
The scripture reading for this Sunday, February 25 The Second Sunday of Lent is Mark 9:2-10 Here is a synopsis of the reading:

In this passage, we witness Jesus taking Peter, James, and John up a high mountain where he is transfigured before them, his clothes becoming dazzling white and his very being radiating with the glory of God. Alongside him appear Moses and Elijah, representing the law and the prophets, conversing with Jesus.

As Christians, this event holds deep significance for our Lenten journey. It serves as a reminder of Jesus' divine nature and his fulfillment of the law and the prophets. In the midst of our Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, we are called to encounter Jesus anew, to behold his glory, and to listen to his voice speaking to us.

Moreover, Peter's response to this transfiguration offers us a valuable lesson. Overwhelmed by the sight, he suggests building three shelters for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. However, a voice from heaven interrupts, declaring, "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!" (Mark 9:7, NIV). In our Lenten journey, we are reminded not to cling to fleeting experiences or seek to preserve moments of encounter with God. Instead, we are called to listen to Jesus, to follow him faithfully, and to allow his transformative love to permeate every aspect of our lives.

Furthermore, as the disciples descended from the mountain, Jesus instructs them not to speak of what they had witnessed until after his resurrection. This highlights the importance of embracing the fullness of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection during the Lenten season. We are invited to journey with Jesus through his passion, to enter into the mystery of his suffering and death, trusting in the promise of resurrection and new life.

As we meditate on the transfiguration during Lent, let us open our hearts to the transforming power of Christ's love, allowing it to illuminate our lives and empower us to bear witness to his glory in the world. May we, like Peter, James, and John, be attentive to Jesus' voice, following him with unwavering faith and devotion, as we journey towards the celebration of Easter and the hope of salvation.

We look forward to seeing you at PWC this week!

Love,
Fr. Dale and Pastor Mark
