Come to Sunday Service Prepared to Hear God’s Word Proclaimed
The scripture reading for this Sunday, February 18 The First Sunday of Lent is Mark 1:12-15 Here is a synopsis of the reading:
In Mark 1:12-15, we encounter Jesus being led into the wilderness immediately after his baptism by John the Baptist. This period of forty days in the wilderness serves as a time of intense spiritual preparation and testing for Jesus before he begins his public ministry. It is a season of solitude, fasting, and communion with God.

As we enter the Season of Lent, we are invited to journey alongside Jesus into the wilderness of our own hearts. Lent is a time of reflection, repentance, and renewal—a spiritual wilderness where we confront our own temptations, struggles, and vulnerabilities. Just as Jesus faced the temptations of the devil in the wilderness, so too are we confronted with our own temptations that seek to pull us away from God's will for our lives.

Yet, in the midst of our struggles, we are reminded of the hope and promise found in Jesus' proclamation: "The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!" (Mark 1:15). Lent is not merely a season of self-denial or guilt but a journey towards transformation and redemption. It is an opportunity to turn away from sin and embrace the abundant life that God offers us through Christ.

During this Season of Lent, let us follow Jesus' example by seeking solitude, prayer, and fasting. Let us allow ourselves to be vulnerable before God, acknowledging our weaknesses and shortcomings. And let us trust in the good news of the kingdom, knowing that through repentance and faith, we can experience the grace and mercy of God in our lives.
Please pray for our community and for those who are hurting in our world.

Love,
Fr. Dale and Pastor Mark
