Isaiah 48:17-19, December 10, 2021

Reading:

Thus says the LORD, your redeemer,
the Holy One of Israel:
I, the LORD, your God,
teach you what is for your good,
and lead you on the way you should go.
If you would hearken to my commandments,
your prosperity would be like a river,
and your vindication like the waves of the sea;
Your descendants would be like the sand,
and those born of your stock like its grains,
Their name never cut off
or blotted out from my presence.

Reflection:

As loving parents are raising a child; for the child to be healthy, both emotionally and spiritually, the child has to have boundaries.  This means the parents have to give the child direction in their lives.  Parents have to teach a child what is right and wrong.  It is the same with us with God.  In today’s passage from Isaiah, God states:  I, the LORD, your God, teach you what is for your good, and lead you on the way you should go.  If you would hearken to my commandments, your prosperity would be like a river….  In comparison to God, we are like children, God is eternally sensible and his knowledge infinite.  God gives us the commandments out of love, so we can live our life to the fullest and not be muddled by sin and spiritual confusion.  We are invited to reflect on the Ten Commandments in our life and examine how we truly incorporate them into our lives.  When we do this, we have the possibility of truly experiencing the hope, peace and joy of Jesus in our lives.
