A Spiritual Reflection
for Your Weekend

Staying in the Present

Many of the good and important things that have happened to me in life were completely unexpected. And many things I thought would happen to me did not occur. As I reflect on this reality, it is clear God is present in the events of my life, yet I act and speak as if I am in control. But if the future is not in my hands, then I have all the more reason to stay in the present and give honor and glory to God from where I am, trusting that God is the God of life who makes everything new. Who knows where you or I will be next year on this day? So why worry about it? God will surprise us.

A Reflection

Turning the Other Cheek

The reading for this Sunday, November 9, the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time is: I Corinthians 3:9c-11, 16-17. Here is a synopsis and reflection of the reading.

St. Paul reminds us: “You are God’s building… no one can lay a foundation other than the one that is there, namely, Jesus Christ.” These words call us to remember that our lives—our faith, our community, our Church—are meant to rest firmly on the foundation of Christ alone.

We live in a world that tempts us to build our lives on shifting sands—success, possessions, opinions, even our own efforts. But Paul’s message is clear: only when Jesus is the foundation does the structure of our life endure. When Christ is at the center, our hearts become temples of the Holy Spirit—holy places where God chooses to dwell.

Paul also gives a serious warning: “If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for the temple of God, which you are, is holy.” This isn’t meant to frighten us, but to awaken us to our dignity. Each of us, and all of us together, are God’s sacred dwelling. How we treat one another, how we speak, how we build up or tear down the Body of Christ—these things matter profoundly.

So today, as we gather around the altar, let us ask the Lord to strengthen the foundation of our hearts in Him. May we be living temples where God’s love and peace are made visible, and may our community be built up—not by pride or division—but by the unshakable cornerstone who is Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Please remember those who are struggle with fear and anxiety -- may the healing presence of Jesus touch them and calm them with His peace and serenity.

We will see you on Sunday morning for service at 10:00! If you are out of town, please join us on Facebook Live.
Love,
Fr. Dale & Pastor Mark
