Dear Friend,

We look forward to seeing you at service this Sunday at 10:00 am.

It is important to remember when Jesus began his public ministry, he brought people together. Jesus realized being a follower of “The Way” would not be easy and we would need the physical and spiritual support of one another as part of a community. If you are in town, we look forward to seeing you in person this Sunday at 10:00 am. It is so vital we support one another in person in our Christian faith and gather as a community for worship every Sunday. Our Facebook broadcast should only be for if you are sick, homebound, or out of town.

The scripture reading for this Sunday, February 5, the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time is: Isaiah 58:7-10. Here is a synopsis of the reading: In the work of justice, light shall break through darkness.

Please come to Sunday worship prepared to hear the Word of God proclaimed; we invite you to read the scripture passage before service. The music for this Sunday can be found on the top-right hand corner of our website.

Fr. Dale’s Sunday Morning Bible Study begins this Sunday, February 5 from 8:45 am to 9:30 am in Building 4:12. Please also mark your calendar for Sundays, February 12 and 19 for this exciting and insightful three-week series. The theme for this class will be how St. Paul teaches us about the new creation.

PWC Kids is this Sunday, February 5 beginning at 9:30 am in Building 4:12. This interactive bible study will focus on the Gospel reading that is proclaimed to the adults at worship. This is an incredible opportunity for children ages four through fifth grade to learn about Jesus. Parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles: mark your calendar for this Sunday. The kids finish up at the worship service, coming back during the Lord’s Prayer. You are welcome to bring friends! Contact our children’s minister, Rachel Freeman for more information, Rachel can be reached at [email protected] or at the church office: 480-649-0300.

Open to all married couples, Marriage Enrichment will meet tonight, Friday, February 3 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm in the church. This will be an excellent opportunity to grow in your relationship with your spouse through the person of Jesus through a presentation and small group discussion questions. Dinner will also be served. Please contact Pastor Mark in the church office for more information.

Women’s Bible Study: This Saturday from 9:00 am to 10:30 am in the church. Here is an update from Deacon Carol Palmer: We will be doing the class called Meant for Good. It’s an adventure of trusting God and His plans for each of us. The format will be a bit different with a video lesson by Megan Fate Marshman, a well-known Bible teacher. She delights in sharing Jesus at churches and conferences across the country. I first went to a conference she was teaching and totally loved her teaching. This is the study of Jeremiah. After the teaching we will break up at tables and share with each other. I would like to invite women who have not come before to join us in this marvelous teaching. Ladies, we can change the world when we invite King Jesus to guide our feet. Class starts on Saturday, February 4 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am in the church.

The PWC Men’s Group is meeting this Saturday in Building 4:12 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. This is an excellent time for men in our community to gather and deepen our relationship with Jesus and grow in fellowship and friendship with one another. Breakfast will be served too!

Contemplative Prayer will be held on Wednesday, February 8 at 6:00 pm on Zoom only. If you have never experienced Contemplative Prayer, this would be a great opportunity to encounter this type of prayer. Here is the link: Zoom Link. Meeting ID: 990 597 9614

Mark your calendar for The Guadalupe Trip Information Night on Monday, February 13 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the church.

February is an active month at PWC, please check out our online calendar, to see where you can get involved: Online Calendar.

For the next few weeks, we will be running a series entitled, “Meet the PWC Deacons,” hopefully, this will give you a better opportunity to know our deacons and how they can minister to you.

Meet the Deacons

Deacon Chuck Monroe

I am married to my wife Sylvia, and we have been married for 32 years. We have a blended family of seven children, 20 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. I am a retired firefighter and worked with the Mesa Fire Department for 31 years and had a successful career. I have attended church at the Praise and Worship Center since we have been in our current building.

I have two important ministries as a deacon. One, I am one of three deacons that work with the poor. I currently work with Matthew’s Crossing; I am on the executive board and serve as secretary. I volunteer at Matthew’s Crossing and my focus is with the “Meals to Grow” (feeding hungry children in school) program. When my schedule allows, I help put together the bags we give children on Tuesday, and I deliver bags and other food to schools on Wednesday.

My other ministry is, I serve as the Deacon Coordinator. As deacons we meet monthly for continuous training, and I coordinate our training, meetings, and education with Father Dale. I provide support and encouragement to all the deacons, update job descriptions and expectations. I communicate with the deacons on an ongoing basis and act as the “voice of the deacons” as appropriate.

I enjoy working with both ministries and I get a sense of accomplishment from serving. I feel like I can do more than I do, and I am open to the Holy Spirit guiding me to serve as the Lord desires.

Your giving to the PWC ministry makes a difference in how we can minister to others. Due to your tithing, we are able, many times, to meet the needs of those in our community who are experiencing spiritual, emotional, and physical concerns. From pastoral counseling to grief support, to Bible Study, to Adult Education, to providing food through Matthew’s Crossing for families who are economically struggling to PWC Kids and Marriage Enrichment and our funeral ministry; your consistent giving makes a difference, a big change in people’s lives!

The School of Change is
coming in March

Change your life. God’s kingdom is here.
Matthew 4:17 MSG

Change can be difficult, but it does not have to be. Often the difficulty is in the perspective or how we look at change. Change in behavior, outlook and attitude is a process. We don’t know where we are going and the “in between” often feels messy - like a Holy Collision.

Wednesdays:
March 1, 8, 15 and 22
@ 7:00 pm

Peace and blessings for your weekend! We will see you on Sunday at 10:00 am for worship!

Love,
Fr. Dale and Pastor Mark
