Dear Friend,

It is getting hot! We hope you are able to stay cool this weekend!

The scripture reading for this Sunday, June 12, Trinity Sunday is John 16:12-15. Here is a summary of the reading: Whatever the Father has is mine. The Spirit of truth will guide you. Jesus appears to his disciples and gives them the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Please read, reflect, and pray with the passage before Sunday. Just as our pastors prepare by reading, studying, and reflecting on Sunday’s scripture passage, so should we. The music for this Sunday can be found on the top-right hand corner of our website.

Our Sunday Service begins at 10:00 am In-Person and on Facebook Live.

We are collecting cereal for Matthew’s Crossing, for the needy in honor of our fathers, now through Father’s Day. The bags are in the church, and you are welcome to bring the cereal back on Sunday or during regular business hours. Please be generous. So many young families are hurting right now, Matthew’s Crossing has seen an uptick in the number of people requesting food assistance. Please also write your father’s name on the bag as we remember our dads on Father’s Day.

PWC Kids is this Sunday, June 12 beginning at 9:30 am in Building 4:12. This interactive bible study will focus on the Gospel reading that is proclaimed to the adults at worship. This is an incredible opportunity for children ages four through fifth grade to learn about Jesus. Parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles: mark your calendar for this Sunday. The kids finish up at the worship service, coming back during the Lord’s Prayer. You are welcome to bring friends! Contact our new children’s minister, Tami Heinl for more information, Tami can be reached at [email protected] or at the church office: 480-649-0300.

We are growing PWC Kids and need your help! Calling all volunteers who have a heart for Jesus and who love kids! We want a few beautiful souls who can help on Sunday mornings from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in Building 4:12. We need one volunteer each Sunday and our goal is to have enough people to rotate every eight to 12 weeks. Please email Tami Heinl, at [email protected] or at the church office at 480-649-0300. Thank you for your support and prayers and we look forward to serving TOGETHER!

Joyce Bailey invites our community to join her on Sunday, June 19 from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm to celebrate African American Stories of Migration in honor of Juneteenth. It will be held at the Arizona Heritage Center, 1300 N. College Avenue, Tempe. This free event will have live performances, educational tables, food, and refreshments!

Our June calendar is online, please take advantage of all the wonderful opportunities at PWC: PWC June Calendar.

Thank you for your dedication to the Praise and Worship Center. Your giving allows the holy work of this community to thrive and for us to be Jesus to those we encounter on the journey of faith. For example, is the work of Matthew’s Crossing and our ministry partnership with them. As inflation hits the economically vulnerable, people are being forced to make choices between food, gas, electricity, or rent. Due to your commitment, Matthew’s Crossing is available to our brothers and sisters who are struggling and provide them with food boxes.

A Reflection from Henri Nouwen: Joy Flows from Communion with God
The joy that Jesus offers his disciples is his own joy, which flows from his intimate communion with the One who sent him. It is a joy that does not separate happy days from sad days, successful moments from moments of failure, experiences of honor from experiences of dishonor, passion from resurrection. This joy is a divine gift that does not leave us during times of illness, poverty, oppression, or persecution. It is present even when the world laughs or tortures, robs or maims, fights, or kills. It is truly ecstatic, always moving us away from the house of fear into the house of love, and always proclaiming that death no longer has the final say, though its noise remains loud and its devastation visible. The joy of Jesus lifts up life to be celebrated.

We are looking forward to seeing you in church on Sunday at 10:00 am. We continue to pray for those who are struggling. May the peace of Jesus surround them.

Love,
Fr. Dale and Pastor Mark
