Dear Friend,

We hope you had a restful Memorial Day Weekend; we always remember those who gave their life in service for our country and our freedoms.

Attention Women of PWC: Tonight, Wednesday, June 1 (this is a change from our usual Saturday morning gathering) we are having Kick Off for our summer series for Women’s Ministry. We will be meeting in the evening for one time only and serving dinner. Our new series, Summer in the Psalms, will be on King David’s writing in the Book of Psalms. This will be a new format for our teaching series. Since we are serving dinner, please RSVP to Deacon Carol Palmer by texting her at 206-612-1742, so we can have an accurate count and order enough food. Dinner will be at 6:00 pm, please come at 5:30 pm to socialize. Evangelize and invite other women to join us!

The Men’s Ministry will be meeting in Building 4:12 tonight, Wednesday evening, June 1, at 6:00 (this is also a change from our usual Saturday morning gathering) for a teaching and discussion on the Power of the Holy Spirit. Dinner will be served at 6:00 pm. Invite a friend, come enjoy getting to know each other more and delving deeper into the power of the Holy Spirit.

Thank You Terri Thompson!!!

Our office manager, Terri Thompson, is retiring. Terri has done an incredible job ministering to our community in the office and we thank Terri for her years of wonderful service. She will be deeply missed by the staff and the PWC community. The good news in this is that Terri and her husband John will continue to be active members of PWC!

Terri, enjoy your retirement, it is very much deserved!

Thank you for your dedication to the Praise and Worship Center. Your giving allows the holy work of this community to thrive and for us to be Jesus to those we encounter on the journey of faith. For example, is the work of Matthew’s Crossing and our ministry partnership with them. As inflation hits the economically vulnerable, people are being forced to make choices between food, gas, electricity, or rent. Due to your commitment, Matthew’s Crossing is available to our brothers and sisters who are struggling and provide them with food boxes.

A Reflection from Henri Nouwen: Prayer Leads to Compassion
Prayer and action can never be seen as contradictory or mutually exclusive. Prayer without action grows into powerless pietism, and action without prayer degenerates into questionable manipulation. If prayer leads us into deeper unity with the compassionate Christ, it will always give rise to concrete acts of service. And if concrete acts of service do indeed lead us to a deeper solidarity with the poor, the hungry, the sick, the dying, and the oppressed, they will always give rise to prayer. In prayer we meet Christ, and in him all human suffering. In service we meet people, and in them the suffering Christ. . .

Action with and for those who suffer is the concrete expression of a compassionate life and the final criterion of being a Christian. Such acts do not stand beside the moments of prayer and worship but are themselves such moments. Why? Because Jesus Christ, who did not cling to his divinity, but became as we are, can be found where there are hungry, thirsty, alienated, naked, sick, and imprisoned people. Precisely when we live in an ongoing conversation with Christ and allow the Spirit to guide our lives, we will recognize Christ in the poor, the oppressed, and the downtrodden and will hear his cry and respond to it wherever he is revealed.

Please pray for all those who are struggling in our world, especially families who have been affected by violence and death of their loved ones.

Love,
Fr. Dale and Pastor Mark
