Dear Friend,

With so much going on in our world, and some handling life better than others, what is truly needed in our world today is compassion. It is important to realize one really never knows what someone else is going through in their life. Compassion literally means to suffer together. Defined as sympathetic concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others, Henri Nouwen writes: compassion asks us to go where it hurts, to enter into the places of pain, to share in brokenness, fear, confusion, and anguish. Compassion challenges us to cry out with those in misery, to mourn with those who are lonely, to weep with those in tears. Compassion requires us to be weak with the weak, vulnerable with the vulnerable, and powerless with the powerless. Compassion means full immersion in the condition of being human. Our world is aching for compassionate souls, who will be Jesus Christ to those who suffer.

Our in-person service is this Sunday at 10:00 am. Our scripture reading for this Sunday is I Corinthians 15:54b-57. If you are in town, we look forward to seeing you in person on Sunday at 10:00 am. It is vital we support one another in our Christian journey and gather together as a community for worship every Sunday.

Please read, reflect, and pray with the passage before Sunday. The music for this Sunday can be found on the top-right hand corner of our website or below:

Over the past few weeks, we have had several members of our community come down with Covid. It appears the Delta variant is affecting people who have been vaccinated. For Sunday service we are going to social distance the chairs in church and strongly recommend we temporarily wear masks.

It was great to see those who were present for the Sunday Morning Bible Study this past Sunday! We have two more sessions from 8:45 am to 9:30 am with Fr. Dale, this Sunday, August 15 and next Sunday, August 22. Our theme is Three More Scripture Passages That Will Change Your Life! These passages will be from the Old Testament. We look forward to seeing you in Building 412. We will be social distancing.

Your generosity allows PWC to minister during these expensive summer months. Our bills increase due to the heat and some become remiss in their tithing during the summer. Thank you for your continued support of PWC!

The Women’s Retreat scheduled for today Friday, August 13 and tomorrow, Saturday, August 14 has been postponed due to some women in leadership positions being ill and in an overabundance of caution due to Covid. We are currently working on a date with the hotel to reschedule. Thank you in advance for your patience!

Feed My Starving Children is meeting Thursday, August 26 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. This is a great way to help others in need! For more information email Deacon Peter Klemens at: [email protected].

We have a Prayer Retreat on Saturday, August 28th, in Building 412 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm; our theme is Complete Dependence on God: Repenting of our Sins. A number of our deacons will lead this uplifting session.

Are you homebound? If so, Deacon John Null can bring you communion. The only exception is if you have or are recovering from Covid. The best way to get in touch with Deacon John is by contacting the church office, at 480-649-0300, and leaving a message.

If you are sick and in need of meals while you are sick, Dawn Paschke, Deacon Dennis’ wife, will be coordinating this ministry. To leave a message for Dawn, please call the church office at 480-649-0300.

In September, we will be offering adult education based on the book Emotionally Healthy Spirituality. Now is a good time to start reading it. The book sells for $18.99; our price is only $16.00. Stop by the Cross Shop today and purchase a copy! The cost of the sessions is $15.00, and it includes another book. If there is an issue with payment, please know scholarships are available. Father Dale and members of our community will lead the class. Please put these dates on your calendar: September 22, 29, October 6, 13, and 20.

The PWC Prayer Chain is here for you. We want to lift you up in prayer. If you have a special need, please go to our prayer page and submit your prayer request: Prayer Request Form.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday at 10:00 am. Blessings for a wonderful weekend!
